Notes: Ride of Silence 2017 – Wed, 5/17, 6:00 and 6:30 PM

Please attend the annual and national Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 17. Your participation honors cyclists killed or injured in collisions with automobiles. Our silence during the ride promotes safety awareness and mutual respect on the road. We will visit the ghost bike sites in the City of Albany and Colonie.

There are two Starting Points – Boat Launch area, Albany Corning Preserve, 6:00 PM and W. Capitol Park & Washington Ave. & State St., 6:30 PM.

Anyone with a bicycle and helmet is welcome to this slow-pace and quiet ride. If you prefer not to ride, please meet at Diva De Loayza’s ghost bike site at the corner of Western Ave., Homestead, and University Place (near Sunoco station, the Uncommon Grounds plaza, and All Saints RC Church).

Distance: TBD
Notes: The New York ride is tentatively being planned to take place in Manhattan in and around Central Park including Columbus Circle, 5th Avenue, 59th St., Central Park West and 110th St. It is contingent upon approval and permits from the NYPD and City Hall and the Central Park Conservancy. When I get the go ahead from each of those, I will establish a Facebook page for further information.

New York

Distance: 12 miles
Notes: This will be a small ride (5-10 riders) given the short time to prepare. If you're like me and getting out of work and being bike-ready by 7 pm is a challenge, then the good news is we've made it a little easier. I've decided the most accessible route is the Hudson River Parkway, and Waterfront Bicycle (which usually closes at 7pm) has agreed to stay open two hours later. Their shop is right at the bike start. If you plan to ride and need a bike, let me know your height (so the shop can adjust the seat for you), and bike type preference (road or hybrid).

There is also a Central Park RoS, and this ride is not meant to compete with that ride. If Central Park is an easier location for you, please contact the organizer for that event. Thank you and ride safely.
